From Staff Reports
The final tickets of the 2021 College Football Playoffs will be punched this weekend as a total of 10 Conference Championships will be played today and tomorrow.
Locally, the big one is the Southeastern Conference Championship Game in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. It’s top-ranked and unbeaten Georgia (12-0) against once-beaten and defending champion Alabama (11-1). Kickoff is at 4 p.m. and will be televised on CBS.
This is the 9th time the Georgia Bulldogs have reached the SEC title game. The Bulldogs have lost both times when facing Alabama in the SEC Championship, losing 32-28 in 2012 and 35-28 in 2018.
As of today, the College Football Playoff Rankings have Georgia at No. 1, followed by Michigan at No. 2, then Alabama and Cincinnati. Oklahoma State is at No. 5 and Notre Dame is No. 6. Only the top four teams make it to the playoffs.
And speaking of playoffs, two Georgia schools remain alive in college football championships. Kennesaw State (11-1) travels to East Tennessee State for a FCS Championships 2nd Round contest on Saturday while Valdosta State (10-1) hosts Bowie State in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals.
