From Coweta County Schools Press Release

In a called meeting on Thursday, May 23, the Coweta County School Board voted to immediately release a report to the public on the findings of an independent investigation of allegations made last year against the school system.

The 161-page report – issued by Wilson, Morton and Downs, LLC – concludes that the Coweta County School System and the Coweta Board of Education properly conducted a 2018 bid process for the installation of synthetic turf fields at Coweta County’s three high schools, and did so at a cost that was in line with similar projects at other school systems.

The report also concludes that the Coweta County Board of Education and school system employees did not engage in fraudulent activity or other wrongdoing in relation to the track and field projects, and that allegations made against the school system in August, 2018, had no basis in fact.

The Board voted last August to retain the firm of Wilson, Morton and Downs to conduct a thorough and independent investigation of the school system, following receipt of an August 7, 2018, letter sent by attorney Josh McKoon on behalf of Coweta County resident Henry Ashmore.  The letter accused unspecified Coweta County Board of Education members and school system staff of criminal conduct related to the system’s request for bids for track and field work, including installation of synthetic turf fields, at the three county high schools.
