From Coweta County Schools Press Release

The Coweta County School System’s average SAT score for the graduating class of 2022 was 1070, placing participating Coweta students well above state and national averages on the college entrance exam.

It was the fifth year in a row that Georgia students outscored the national average on the SAT, and the eighth year that Coweta students in turn outscored both state and national averages.  Coweta Schools’ average SAT performance placed Coweta 42 points above the national average and 18 points above the state average.

Reporting released by the College Board and the Georgia Department of Education shows test results for 2022 graduates on the SAT’s Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math sections of the test.  The test is scaled between 400 and 1600 points. The mean scores above represent data for students in the graduating class of 2022 who took the SAT during high school. Test-takers are counted only once and only their latest scores are included in the annual average.

The Coweta County School System ranked in about the top 16 percent in performance among the 182 Georgia school districts reporting mean SAT scores in 2022.

“These scores reflect well not just on these students’ high schools, but on their total school experience and the quality of work that is being done from Pre-K through 12th grade,” said Coweta Superintendent Evan Horton. “I congratulate our school staff as well as these students.”

Coweta County School System students scored an average of 545 on Reading/Writing (Georgia averaged 536, Nation averaged 521); and 525 on Math (Georgia 516, Nation 507); for a total average of 1,070 (Georgia 1,052, Nation 1,028).

2022 SAT averages for Coweta’s three high schools are listed below.

East Coweta High scored an average of 536 on Reading/Writing and 513 on Math for an average total score of 1,049.

Newnan High scored an average of 536 on Reading/Writing and 518 on Math for an average total score of 1,054.

Northgate High scored an average of 569 on Reading/Writing and 548 on Math for an average of 1,117.

Mean scores on the exam decreased at the national, state and local level in 2022, as the number of students taking the exam increased significantly among that year’s graduating class

The Georgia Department of Education reported that SAT test participation among last year’s graduating classes increased sharply compared to 2021, when the impacts of the pandemic – including the temporary waiver of SAT/ACT score requirements for University System of Georgia admissions, and the cancellation of some test registrations and closure of some test centers in 2020 – caused fewer students in the graduating class to take the SAT.

Fifty-one percent of Georgia’s class of 2022 took the SAT at some point during high school, compared to 38 percent of the class of 2021. Coweta County’s participation rate increased likewise, with 788 students in the graduating class of 2022 taking the SAT at some point, compared to 507 of Coweta’s 2021 graduates taking the test.  All three Coweta high schools’ mean scores in 2022 also stayed above national averages.
