From Piedmont Newnan Hospital

Piedmont Newnan Hospital has welcomed 10 members of the Georgia National Guard to its campus this week. These soldiers are serving in a non-medical capacity and will be deployed at the hospital through December 3, 2021.

“The fourth COVID-19 surge has put a strain on many hospitals, including Piedmont Newnan, as we continue to see high numbers of COVID-19 patients, largely unvaccinated and requiring a higher level of care,” said Mike Robertson, Piedmont Newnan CEO. “We welcome and appreciate the support of the Georgia National Guard so that we can continue to provide safe, patient-centered care to the community.”

These National Guard Soldiers will assist in various areas of need throughout the hospital, primarily in the following departments – patient transport, pharmacy, dietary, the emergency department, and as safety sitters for patients.

“I am honored to work alongside medical teams to fight the battle against the COVID virus and champion my community,” said Reginald Lyons, Georgia National Guard. “I’m always grateful to serve my community in which I live and love, and it’s the main reason I joined the Georgia National Guard.”

As we continue this fight against COVID-19, we encourage those who have not been vaccinated to do so quickly, and for everyone to continue wearing a mask, watching your distance and washing your hands. In this current surge, we are seeing younger demographics, under the age of 50, being hospitalized and dying as a result of COVID-19. We need to stop preventable deaths.
