From Newnan Kiwanis Club

The Kiwanis Club of Newnan hosted its annual Christmas Shopping Spree on December 19 at the Target Store in Newnan.

Newnan Kiwanis works with the local elementary schools to identify children who would benefit from the “shopping spree.” This year, 85 boys and girls from 19 different schools received a set budget and went on a shopping spree with a Newnan Kiwanis volunteer. The children are free to choose any item whether games, toys, clothes or anything else inside the store, provided they stay within their budget. Over 25 Newnan Kiwanis members escorted each child through the shopping spree experience.

Also participating and supporting the shopping spree were young men and women who belong to the Kiwanis International family of clubs, such as the Key Clubs from the local area high schools.
According to Julie Lee, the President of the Kiwanis Club of Newnan, “The members and partners of the Kiwanis Club of Newnan are dedicated to improving the lives of children within the community. This shopping spree provided a great opportunity to fulfill that mission, brightening the Christmas holidays for so many children and families.”

Keith Ross, President Elect of the Kiwanis Club of Newnan, added, “The Kiwanis Club of Newnan eagerly anticipates this event each Christmas. Of course, the children love it, but our Newnan Kiwanis members also find great joy in the experience of shopping with these children and adding to the children’s enjoyment of Christmas.”

Lee went on to say that, “One of the greatest joys in the shopping experience is how the children often think of their other family members, parents and siblings, when determining how best to spend their shopping budget.”

The Kiwanis Club of Newnan thanks our partner Target Stores for their support and assistance in facilitating this event. The Kiwanis Club of Newnan meets for lunch every Tuesday at the Newnan Country Club at noon. Guests are always welcome.
