By the time we walked out after eating, the Youngest SON of Thunder turned toward me and said, “that was the best chicken fried steak I’ve ever had.” If you know Youngest, that’s a serious statement. For my part, I had just downed a hamburger steak complete with gravy, grilled onions and grilled mushrooms that, well I have to say, ranked up there with my own. And I put my hamburger steak up against anyone.
Welcome to Fat Boys, the definition of a serious bar joint. It’s where cigarette smoke fills the air and there’s an ashtray on every table. The beer is cold and they can probably make about any drink provided it doesn’t require a Buddha bowl. Pull out some quarters and play on one of two tables. And the music selection and sound system aren’t too bad either.
It also just happens to serve some of the best homestyle food we’ve experienced. And it’s eclectic. Besides the above, the variety runs from chicken wings and chips and queso to chicken livers, fresh pork skins and fried cauliflower. Pulled pork tacos or a chicken cordon bleu wrap.
You will not leave hungry. You will leave happy and don’t be surprised if you say, “that was the best (fill in the blank) I’ve ever had.”
Monday to Saturday: 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Sunday: noon to 5 p.m.
