Monday: Coweta adds 6 new COVID cases, 1 death, 1 hospitalization

THE SKINNY – Coweta County posted 6 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, the 7th time in the past 11 days below 10.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Monday, March 22. Below is a summary with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

On Monday, Coweta County confirmed 6 new COVID cases with 1 death and 1 hospitalization. It’s the 7th time in the past 11 days the county has posted below 10 cases and the 18th time this month below 20.

The lone death on Monday was the county’s 20th in March, and is now averaging almost one per day (0.9) this month. The 20 March COVID-related deaths is the 4th-highest total for a month, trailing only February (41), January (31) and September (21).

In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 59 COVID cases (8.4 per day), 5 deaths and 3 hospitalizations.

For March, Coweta has posted 321 cases (14.6 per day) with 20 deaths (0.9 per day) and 24 hospitalizations (1.1 per day). For comparison, here are February’s numbers and per day averages – 886 cases (31.6 per day), 41 deaths (1.5 per day), and 39 hospitalizations (1.4 per day).

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.4 percent, and in the last two weeks has dropped to 3.7 percent.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8346 cases, 170 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 305 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 19th in deaths due to COVID.

The age group of 25-34 year olds had the most new COVID cases on Monday with 3.

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia confirmed 534 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, the lowest single-day total since 308 back on June 2. It’s the 23rd consecutive day the state has been below 2000, the longest stretch since Sept. 30-Oct. 22.

Other Monday numbers in Georgia included 26 deaths, 29 hospitalizations and 3 ICU admits.

Three patient census categories dropped on Monday. ICU bed occupancy fell to 2309 (down 5 from Sunday) or 76.9 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use dropped, now standing at 1005 (down 37) or 27.3 percent capacity. And COVID patients hospitalized in Georgia continued to fall, now standing at 1214 (down 3) which is 8.1 percent of all statewide hospital patients.

The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state rose to 11,805 on Monday (up 203 from Sunday) or at 77.9 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 5.1 percent.

Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 843,675 cases, 16,171 deaths, 57,961 hospitalizations and 9484 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).

ONE YEAR AGO

On March 22, 2020, Georgia confirmed 65 new COVID-19 cases with 5 deaths, pushing the state’s cumulative totals to 620 cases and 25 deaths.

Coweta confirmed 1 new COVID-19 case on March 22 last year to move to 9 cumulative cases.

Other cumulative totals in surrounding counties last year on this date included Fulton with 111, Carroll with 16, Fayette 9, Troup 4 and Spalding 2.
