Monday: Coweta reports 45 new cases of COVID, 1 hospitalization

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Monday, Dec. 7.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
On Monday, Coweta County confirmed 45 new cases of COVID-19, including 1 hospitalization and 0 deaths. It’s the most single-day cases in Coweta since 51 on Nov. 27.
It is the 24th consecutive day in double-digits cases for the county, which is the second-longest streak during the pandemic. Coweta had a stretch of 41 consecutive days (July 21-Aug. 30) with 10-or-more cases during the summer.
For the month of December, the county has registered 223 cases for an average of 31.9 per day with 3 deaths and 8 hospitalizations.
The age group of 55-64 year olds had 11 new cases confirmed on Monday, the highest of any group.
To date, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 3876 cases, 71 deaths and 185 hospitalizations. The overall positive test rate is 8.1 percent, and in the last two weeks, is at 11.5 percent.

Single-day highs now for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (67 on Nov. 17); deaths (4 on Aug. 13); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12).
GEORGIA CASES
Georgia confirmed the 2nd-highest single-day total on Monday with 4861 cases, trailing only the 4947 from Dec. 4. It’s the 12th time that the state has been above 4000 cases in a single day.
Other numbers on Monday included 36 deaths, 231 hospitalizations and 15 ICU admits. Today’s hospitalizations are the 6th day of the past 7 that Georgia has been over 200.
Presently, there are 2502 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, which is 16.3 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is 11,967 or at 79.6 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2460 or 83.7 percent capacity.
Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 448,683 cases, 9007 deaths, 36,270 hospitalizations and 6691 ICU admits. The age group in Georgia with the most cases by far is 18-29 year olds with 109,030. The age group in Georgia with the most deaths is the over 80 year olds with 3350. And the age group with most hospitalizations in GA is 60-69 year olds with 7391.
The overall positive test rate is 9.3 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s also rising at 11.6 percent.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (4,947 on Dec. 4); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
