Monday: Coweta adds 38 new cases of COVID-19

THE SKINNY – For the 3rd straight day, Coweta County had 0 deaths due to COVID-19 reported on Monday. That’s the first time since Jan. 1-4 the county has gone at least 3 consecutive days without a COVID-related death.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Monday, Feb. 15. Below is data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

On Monday, Coweta County confirmed 38 new cases of COVID-19 with 0 deaths and 0 hospitalizations. It is the 3rd consecutive day Coweta has not recorded a COVID-related death, the longest stretch since Jan. 1-4. The county’s report did include what is categorized as 2 probable COVID-deaths but had yet to confirm.

Case-wise, Coweta’s 38 on Monday was the first time above 30 since Feb. 11. The county has now seen its streak of double-digit cases extend to 94 days, dating from Nov. 14.

For the month of February, Coweta has posted 481 cases (32.1 per day), 24 deaths and 13 hospitalizations. Coweta’s 24 deaths already are the 2nd-highest total for a month, trailing only 31 in January.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks has dropped to 9.1 percent (lowest since Nov. 25).

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 7620 cases, 133 deaths (with an additional 11 probable deaths) and 259 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 25th in deaths due to COVID.

On Monday, the age group of 55-64 year olds had the most new COVID cases with 9.

GEORGIA CASES

For the 1st time since Nov. 29-30, Georgia confirmed less than 2000 cases in back-to-back days. Monday’s total was 1730 which followed Sunday’s 1709. Other Monday numbers included 33 deaths, 24 hospitalizations and 2 ICU admits.

Presently, 2843 people (down 88 from Sunday) in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 18.5 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Monday is at 11,987 (down 67) or at 79.0 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is at 2534 (down 51) or 82.2 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use is at 1325 (down 4) or 35.8 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 9.9 percent.

To date, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 792,509 cases, 13,997 deaths, 53,403 hospitalizations and 8762 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
