THE SKINNY – Coweta County continues to see a rise in hospitalizations due to COVID cases with 13 in the past 8 days.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Monday, March 1. Below is a summary with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 19 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday with 1 death and 1 hospitalization. It’s the 8th day in-a-row a hospitalization has been recorded. In that span, 13 hospitalizations have occurred.

Case-wise, Coweta extended its streak of double-digit cases to 108 days, dating from Nov. 14.

In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 247 COVID cases (35.2 per day), 8 deaths and 12 hospitalizations.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 8.8 percent (lowest since Nov. 24).

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8044 cases, 151 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 282 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 21st in deaths due to COVID.

The age group of 15-24 year olds had the most new COVID cases on Monday with 5.

GEORGIA CASES

On Monday, Georgia confirmed its lowest number of new COVID-19 cases since Nov. 16 with 1214. Other numbers included 80 deaths, 50 hospitalizations and 6 ICU admits.

Three of four census number categories dropped slightly from Sunday. ICU bed occupancy dropped to 2418 (down 8 from Sunday) or 79.6 percent capacity.  COVID patients hospitalized in Georgia stands at 1895 (down 29) which is 12.4 percent of all statewide hospital patients. It’s the lowest number since late November. Adult Ventilators now is at 1179 (down 5) or 31.9 percent capacity.

The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state did rise to 12,035 (up 189) or at 79.5 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.1 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 7.4 percent.

Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 819,730 cases, 15,148 deaths, 56,089 hospitalizations and 9132 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
