Monday: Coweta reports lowest daily case number since November

THE SKINNY – Coweta County recorded 11 cases on Monday, the fewest in a day since Nov. 16.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Monday, March 8. Below is a summary with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 11 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday with 1 death and 2 hospitalizations. The 11 cases were the fewest for Coweta in a single day since posting 10 on Nov. 16.

The county’s 2 hospitalizations yesterday now totals 25 in the past 15 days, including a record-high 12 last week (Feb. 28-March 6).

Case-wise, Coweta extended its streak of double-digit cases on Monday to 115 days, dating from Nov. 14.

In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 141 COVID cases (20.1 per day), 8 deaths and 12 hospitalizations.

For March, Coweta has posted 160 cases (20.0 per day) with 9 deaths (1.13 per day) and 13 hospitalizations (1.63 per day). For comparison, here are February’s numbers and per day averages – 886 cases (31.6 per day), 41 deaths (1.46 per day), and 39 hospitalizations (1.39 per day).

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.6 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 6.8 percent.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8185 cases, 159 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 294 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 21st in deaths due to COVID.

The age group of 5-14 year olds had the most new COVID cases on Monday with 4.

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia confirmed only 741 new COVID-19 cases on Monday which is the lowest since 596 on Sept. 28. Coupled with Sunday’s 939 cases, it’s the first time since Oct. 12-13 (902-993) that the state had back-to-back days below 1000 cases. And it is the 9th straight day below 2000 cases. Other numbers yesterday included 42 deaths, 39 hospitalizations and 6 ICU admits.

Two of four census categories slightly dropped on Monday. COVID patients hospitalized in Georgia stands at 1569 (down 39 from Sunday) which is 10.6 percent of all statewide hospital patients. ICU bed occupancy also dropped to 2379 (down 47) or 77.7 percent capacity.

The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state increased Monday to 11,664 (up 13) or at 76.7 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use did not change and now stands at 1168 or 31.6 percent capacity, .

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.0 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 6.1 percent.

Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 829,077 cases, 15,640 deaths, 56,836 hospitalizations and 9269 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
