THE SKINNY – Coweta County has now had 9 consecutive days with less than 10 COVID-19 cases recorded, the longest stretch in almost a year.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Sunday, April 11.  Below is a summary for the week of April 5-11 with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 45 new COVID-19 cases for the past week with 11 deaths and 7 hospitalizations. For comparision, last week’s (March 29-April 4) totals were 54 cases (down 9 this week), 1 death (up 10) and 11 hospitalizations (down 4).

The county has now recorded 9 consecutive days of single-digit cases, the longest stretch since a 10-day span from May 11-20 last spring. Last week’s daily case average was 6.4.

Last week’s high marks included 9 cases on April 10, 4 deaths twice (April 7 and 8) and 3 hospitalizations on April 7. It was the third time Coweta had posted back-to-back days of 4 COVID-related deaths since the pandemic started.

In April, Coweta has posted 86 cases (7.8 per day) with 12 deaths (1.1 per day) and 16 hospitalizations (1.4 per day). For comparison, here are the March totals – 373 cases (12.0 per day) with 30 deaths (0.96 per day) and 29 hospitalizations (0.94 per day).

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.0 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 3.4 percent.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8484 cases, 192 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 326 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 18th in deaths due to COVID.

The age group of 55-64 year olds had the most new COVID cases in the past week with 11.

GEORGIA CASES

In the past week, Georgia confirmed 6298 new COVID-19 cases for an average of 899.7 per day. The case total only increased by 47 from last week’s report. The daily high last week was on April 8 with 1120. Georgia now owns a streak of 43 straight days below 2000 cases, the longest streak since  May 17 to June 27.

Georgia also recorded 233 deaths in the past week (down 29 from a week ago) for an average of 33.3 per day. The daily high was 66 on April 7.

Three of four patient census categories increased slightly in the past week.  The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state rose to 11,514 (up 320 from last week) or at 75.8 percent capacity. COVID Patients Hospitalized in Georgia increased, now standing at 1136 (up 18) which is 7.7 percent of all statewide hospital patients. And Adult Ventilators in use rose, now at 983 (up 1) or 27.2 percent capacity.

ICU Bed Occupancy was the lone category to drop and is now down to 2284 (down 84 from last week) or 75.5 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.5 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 4.7 percent.

Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 862,137 cases, 16,982 deaths, 59,714 hospitalizations and 9782 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).

ONE YEAR AGO

On April 11, 2020, Georgia had confirmed a cumulative total of 12,261 new COVID-19 cases with 432 deaths.

Coweta had confirmed 101 cumulative COVID-19 cases and 2 deaths on this date a year ago.

Cumulative totals in Coweta and surrounding counties thru April 11 had Fulton with 1446, Carroll at 204, Coweta 101, Fayette 99, Spalding 69, Troup 57, Meriwether 23 and Heard 4.
