Newnan’s Urban Redevelopment Agency completes Fall Paint Day
From The City of Newnan Press Release
The City of Newnan’s Urban Redevelopment Agency (NURA) committee successfully completed its annual Fall Paint Day on November 9 with the help of 27 volunteers from more than 5 local and regional organizations.
The event was initially scheduled for October 26, but due to inclement weather was rescheduled.
“We’re thankful for all of our local community partners who always help make these projects a great success,” said Tracy Dunnavant, director, Planning & Zoning for the city of Newnan. “We are fortunate to have so many wonderful volunteers who are committed to bettering their community.”
Organizations that participated in the Fall 2019 Volunteer Paint Day were: East Coweta High School, Go Church, the City of Newnan, NURA and RiverLife. Lowe’s of Newnan and Sherwin Williams of Newnan provided a discount on supplies used for the project.
The area of focus for this fall’s project was a property located on 32 Pinson Street, and with only one day of service for this project, volunteers were able to dedicate six hours to complete tasks such as painting the house, landscape maintenance, and general cleanup.
Each year, NURA committee members select a home or property to help improve as an outreach effort intended to lend a helping hand. Past projects included home improvement efforts on Wheat Street, Pinson Street, Salbide Avenue and the Housing Authority’s Charlie Neal Homes Complex located off Boone Drive.
The Paint Day program provides painting and landscaping services to Newnan, Georgia homeowners who reside in the Urban Redevelopment Area within the city limits. NURA can assist with exterior painting and certain exterior minor repairs, as well as yard work and landscaping. The selection of a property and the scope of work will be determined by the NURA. To qualify, the property owner must reside at the property, and the property must not be a rental property.
The committee is currently accepting applications for the Spring 2020 Paint Day until March 16, 2020. Paint Day applications can be found on the City of Newnan’s website under the Planning & Zoning Department link at http://www.cityofnewnan.org/Paint%20Day%20Application.pdf.
