Citizen’s Firearms Fundamentals is a 3 part community program designed to provide basic instruction in the safe and effective use of firearms (primarily handguns). The program consists of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening sessions. Students must attend all three sessions. County Rec Dept Dog Obedience Classes

Dog obedience classes for beginners will start Wednesday, August 22 at 7 p.m. at the Coweta County Recreation Dept. The charge for the 9-week course is $150 and is open to all dogs from the age of five months up. Exercises taught will including heeling on and off leash, stand for exam, coming on command, and sit & down stays. Newnan River Rendezvous

Keep Newnan Beautiful

On Saturday, August 25, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (CRK) is partnering with Keep Newnan Beautiful (KNB) to host the first River Rendezvous event in Newnan. This event, free and open to the public, will utilize volunteers from the community to collect water samples from areas along the Wahoo Creek watershed in order to assess the health of the waterway. Volunteers will get to know the watershed and learn about the current threats to water quality in the area as well as collect a water sample themselves. After collection is complete, everyone is invited to stick around to learn how to find and identify macroinvertebrates. Lunch will be provided by KNB.

Hike and Paddle at the Bend

Join us Saturday, August 25 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a 5.5 mile hike up the river trail along with a moderate paddle down the Chattahoochee River. There will be a short paddle instruction before the paddle. Kayaks are available to rent, you MUST preregister for this event. $12 Per person plus $30 kayak rental (if needed) Meet at visitor center.
