The Joints: Cafe Dionne

They call it “New Age American cooking specializing in food from the Southern region.” What it is in reality is a fun upscale joint that belongs in some Jazz Quarter district with a quartet in the corner.
And let’s just cut to the chase: shrimp and grits. Lord help us. Not just shrimp and grits but with a special creole style sauce as well. Let’s just say when one of the SONS left the table, he counted his shrimp before he left. Yes, there were threats made.
You just know the chefs – that would be Chef Harold and Chef Melissa (who was a chef for The Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) – put their heart, soul and something else into every dish. The food is fresh. The food is awesome: grits or homestyle potatoes, no hashbrowns here. Pan Seared Trout, Fried Fish and Grits, Fried Pork Chop Breakfast, Chicken N’ Waffles, Monster Omelets, Mommy’s Salmon Croquette, Brandy’s Sausage and Peppers. Let’s just stop there before we all faint.
Oh, and beignets on Wednesdays and the weekends. Like we said, think New Orleans. Okay, seriously we’ll stop now. Except for one fun quirk. Food is served when it’s ready. That may mean you get your food a few minutes before the others at the table. You have our permission to go ahead and start eating and let the others salivate a bit.
