Thursday: Coweta adds 21 new cases, 1 hospitalization

The 3 p.m. Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Thursday, Aug. 6.

Coweta County confirmed 21 new COVID-19 cases today and added 1 hospitalization. It is the 17th consecutive day Coweta has seen double-digit new cases. In those 17 days (since July 21), Coweta has registered 406 cases, 6 deaths and 25 hospitalizations.

Cumulative totals for Coweta now stand at 1425 cases, 22 deaths and 96 hospitalizations.

Single-day highs for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (48 on July 23); deaths (3 on May 21); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12).

Some good news, Georgia’s daily numbers fell across the board on Thursday. The number of new cases dropped by nearly 600 from yesterday, adding 3,182 today. There were 42 deaths (21 less than Wednesday), 214 hospitalizations (148 less) and 31 ICU admits (29 less). Unfortunately, the 3,182 cases marked the 31st consecutive day the state has recorded 2,000-or-more COVID-19 cases in a single day.

Presently, there are 3,006 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID-19.

Regarding hospitalizations … Among Critical Care Beds in Georgia, 87 percent are in use (13 percent available). Among General Inpatient Beds in Georgia, 83 percent are in use (17 percent available). Among Total Emergency Rooms in Georgia, 52 percent are in use (48 percent available). The total of Adult Ventilators in Georgia is 2,872. Presently, 1,249 (43 percent) are in use and 1,623 (57 percent) are available.

Overall, Georgia now stands at 204,895 cumulative cases, 4026 deaths, 20,0002 hospitalizations and 3647 ICU admits.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (4,813 on July 24); deaths (94 on April 20); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (85 on July 24).
