Weekend Report: Coweta sets record-high with 97 cases Sunday

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 19 and 20.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
Over the weekend, Coweta County confirmed a total of 136 new cases of COVID-19, including a single-day record of 97 cases on Sunday which surpassed the previous high of 72 set just 48 hours earlier on Dec. 18. In addition, Coweta posted 39 cases on Saturday while only 1 hospitalization and 0 deaths were reported over the weekend.
Coweta has now been above 30 cases for 12 straight days and has posted double-digit cases for 37 consecutive days.
The county also set a record-high for cases in a week (Sunday-Saturday) with 368 cases or a 52.6 daily rate for the period Dec. 13-19. The 52.6 daily rate was also a new high. Both marks bettered previous highs of 300 and 42.9 set just a week earlier (Dec. 6-12).
A closer look at cases over the weekend shows the age group of 45-54 year olds had 27 new cases of COVID which was the highest of any group. Next was 35-44 year olds with 24 cases.

For the month of December, Coweta has recorded 917 cases for an average of 45.8 per day with 4 deaths and 20 hospitalizations. The 917 cases is the 2nd-highest monthly total, trailing the record of 953 posted in August by only 36 cases with 11 days left in December. The 45.8 daily rate is also ahead of the high mark for a month – 30.7 in August.
To date, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 4570 cases, 72 deaths (with an additional 5 probable deaths) and 197 hospitalizations. Coweta ranks 24th among all Georgia counties for most cumulative cases.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 8.8 percent, and in the last two weeks, is at 13.6 percent.
GEORGIA CASES
Over the weekend, Georgia confirmed a cumulative total of 9323 cases, including the 4th-highest single-day mark of 5087 on Sunday along with 4236 on Saturday. Other weekend numbers were 41 deaths, 348 hospitalizations and 41 ICU admits. It’s only the 4th time that Georgia has been over 5000 cases in a day since the start of the coronavirus.
Presently, there are 3417 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, which is 21.9 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is 12,085 or at 80.3 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2531 or 86.8 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use in GA is presently at 1283 or 36.2 percent capacity.
Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 509,588 cases, 9437 deaths, 39,412 hospitalizations and 7050 ICU admits.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 9.7 percent, and in the last two weeks, it stands at 13.2 percent.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (6092 on Dec. 18); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
