Today’s Fourth of July Events in-and-around Coweta County

Independence Day events will take place today in Moreland, Newnan, LaGrange and Peachtree City.

Below is a listing of what’s happening on this Fourth of July here locally.

In Newnan, the 4th of July Parade begins at 9 a.m. and the day ends at Newnan High with the 32nd Annual Newnan Fireworks Show hosted by the Rotary Club of Newnan.

The Newnan Parade will begin at Veteran’s Memorial Park (Temple Avenue Park) in downtown Newnan at 9 a.m. and will end at the Greenville Street Park. Local vendors and a farmer’s market will be set up on South Court Square as part of the parade festivities.

Later tonight, the Fireworks Show will take place at Joe Pope Field on the campus of Newnan High School. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and live music from Crossroads Rebellion Band starts at 6 p.m. The fireworks show begins promptly at dark. Admission is free and attendees should bring lawn chairs and blankets. Concession stands will be available and children’s activities are planned as well.

In Peachtree City, the 4th Festival begins with a parade at 9 a.m. Below are the events from the PTC official website.

The Independence Day Parade begins at 9 a.m. on Peachtree Pkwy S (from Village on the Green to McIntosh Trail, ending at Shakerag Knoll/Huddleston Elementary). 4th Fest at City Hall Plaza – family-friendly event from 5–9 p.m. will feature live music, entertainment, several food vendors, and activities for the whole family! Fireworks over Lake Peachtree begin at dusk.

Festivities also begin early as part of the Puckett Station Festival in Moreland. Shanon Grey, who will take part in the Author’s Corner portion of the Festival, has the list of activities on her blog.

8:30 a.m.: Kids’ Patriotic Bike Parade, followed by Patriotic Pet Parade
9 a.m.: Opening ceremonies
11 a.m.: BBQ serving starts
9 a.m.– 2 p.m. or so: Authors’ Corner in Museum–book signing and chat with authors about their latest works and writing
All Day: Market of homemade, handmade, and unique items
Entertainment includes: sports; Newnan Brass with Martin Rudy; strolling Barber Shop Quartet; and a strolling Magician

Special exhibits: salute to era 1900-1920; WWI Display and Veterans’ Groups on hand
Museum: Lewis Grizzard and Erskine Caldwell featured
Special activities: Games of yesteryear on the square for the kids.

And in LaGrange, the 35th Annual Sweet Land of Liberty Fourth of July Parade starts at 10 a.m.

This year’s theme is “Bright Stars, Bold Stripes, Brave Hearts!” The parade starts at Sweetland Amphitheatre and will proceed down Church Street, turn left onto Vernon Road, left on Main Street/Ridley Avenue and then return back to Sweetland Amphitheatre. It will be led by grand marshals Speer and Debbie Burdette! Speer is the recently retired president of the Callaway Foundations and Debbie is a longtime literacy advocate and former school board member.
