Tuesday: Coweta increases by 23 cases, 1 death, 1 hospitalization

The 3 p.m. Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Tuesday, July 21.

Today, Coweta County added 23 new cases of COVID-19 with 1 death and 1 hospitalization. The death was of a 74-year-old black male with no underlying conditions. It was the first Coweta death due to the virus since July 1. The 23 cases marked the 4th time in the last 5 days Coweta has had at least 20 new cases.

Cumulative totals for Coweta now stand at 1042 cases, 17 deaths and 72 hospitalizations.

Single-day highs for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (46 on July 3); deaths (3 on May 21); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12).

Georgia saw a significant increase in several categories today after two days of lower numbers on Sunday and Monday. Today, Georgia had 3,413 new cases, 78 deaths, 447 hospitalizations and 75 ICU admits. The 78 deaths were the most since May 21 while the hospitalizations were the 2nd-highest total in a single day, trailing only 506 on April 7. The 75 ICU admits shattered the previous high of 46 on July 10.

It is the 30th consecutive day the state has had 1,000-or-more cases in a single day and the 13th time since July 1 in which Georgia has had 3,000 cases-or-more in a single day.

Presently, there are 3,155 people hospitalized statewide with COVID-19.

Overall, Georgia has 148,988 cumulative cases, 3254 deaths, 15,494 hospitalizations and 2904 ICU admits.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (4,689 on July 18); deaths (94 on April 20); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (75 on July 21).
