Saturday: Georgia reports 3rd-most COVID deaths in a day

THE SKINNY – Georgia confirmed its 3rd-highest number of deaths in a day on Saturday with 158. Only days with more deaths were Jan. 19 (170) and Jan. 22 (159).

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Saturday, Jan. 30.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

On Saturday, Coweta County confirmed 63 new cases of COVID-19 including 3 hospitalizations. It’s the 78th consecutive day Coweta has reported double-digit cases and the 33rd straight day above 20.

Coweta has posted monthly highs in January for cases (1823), cases per day average (60.8) and deaths (31). The 32 hospitalizations are tied for 2nd-most in a month.

The age group of 25-34 year-olds had the highest number of COVID cases on Saturday with 12, just ahead of the 35-44 group with 11.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 7096 cases, 109 deaths (with an additional 7 probable deaths) and 246 hospitalizations since the pandemic began.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.9 percent, and in the last two weeks, is at 12.8 percent.

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia confirmed 4876 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday including 158 deaths (3rd-highest), 263 hospitalizations and 30 ICU admits. It is the 21st day in which Georgia has registered 100-or-more deaths due to COVID.

Today’s case total is the 34th consecutive day the state has been above 3000.

Presently, 4244 people in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 25.7 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Saturday is at 12,642 or at 83.0 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is at 2682 or 85.9 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use is at 1530 or 41.3 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 746,867 cases, 12,568 deaths, 50,132 hospitalizations and 8390 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 14.2 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (170 on Jan. 19); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
