Tuesday: Coweta sets single-day high with 67 cases

The 3 p.m. Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Tuesday, Nov. 17.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 67 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, breaking the single-day high mark of 66 set on Aug. 26. No deaths or hospitalizations were reported. It’s the 4th time Coweta has been above 60 cases, the two others were 63 (Aug. 14) and 62 (Aug. 15). Coweta has now been in double-digit numbers for cases 4 consecutive days – 22 (Saturday), 22 (Sunday) and 10 (Monday).

Other counties surrounding Coweta had significant increases today as well including Carroll and Fayette, both with 30 new cases today, and Spalding added 18.

In Coweta, the age group of 35-44 years old had the most new cases with 19, followed by 25-34 and 45-54 with 16 new cases each. And the county now has 249 cases during the month of November for a daily rate of 14.6. Last month, October’s daily rate was 12.4 cases.

To date, Coweta has registered cumulative totals of 3262 cases, 64 deaths and 159 hospitalizations. The overall positive test rate is 7.7 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s 6.1 percent.

Single-day highs now for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (67 on Nov. 17); deaths (4 on Aug. 13); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12).

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia confirmed 3536 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, ending a streak of 93 consecutive days below 3000 cases. That’s 2555 more than Monday’s total. Other categories saw increases as well – 25 deaths (up 16 from Monday), 174 hospitalizations (up 150) and 30 ICU admits (up 26).

Presently, there are 1,731 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, which makes up 11.3 percent of statewide hospital beds. In addition, there are 2422 ICU beds occupied today in the state which is 82.4 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 391,466 cases, 8496 deaths, 33,439 hospitalizations and 6259 ICU admits. The overall positive test rate is 9.3 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s 7.8 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (4,813 on July 24); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
