Weather: Cold, rain this week before bitter cold arrives Christmas weekend

Before this week is up, there will be no doubt that winter officially begins on Wednesday, December 21.
The National Weather Service in Peachtree City says to expect cold temperatures and rain on Tuesday and Thursday before bitter cold arrives on Christmas Eve. In fact, lows overnight Friday into Christmas Eve morning will drop to 11 degrees, and on Christmas Eve night, down to 15 – the coldest temperatures in about five years says the Atlanta TV stations’ weather folks.
Today and Wednesday will likely be the two best days, weather-wise, this week. Expect mostly cloudy skies both days with highs near 50 and overnight lows in the upper 30s.
A 60 percent rain chance enters the forecast on both Tuesday and Thursday with a high of 42 on Tuesday and 53 on Thursday.
After the rain moves out early Friday morning, temperatures will begin to drop as the Christmas weekend arrives. The high Friday will be 36 under mostly sunny skies. It will continue to be mostly sunny on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The high on Christmas Eve Saturday will be 28 and Christmas Day Sunday will be 34.

TUESDAY – Rain likely, mainly between 10am and 11am. Cloudy, with a high near 42. East wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
WEDNESDAY – Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.
THURSDAY – Rain likely, mainly after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 53. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
FRIDAY – A 10 percent chance of rain before 7am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 36.
