Another weekend rolls into Coweta County and the surrounding area with several fun, family-friendly events taking place.

On Friday, volunteers are needed to help at the Coweta Special Olympics Masters Bowling event at Junction Lanes to get the day started. Exercise is Medicine is at Newnan Carnegie Library, there’s Jukebox Saturday Night at the Nixon Centre, the Heritage Hawktion fundraiser at the Newnan Centre and downtown Newnan hosts a two-day Shop in the Name of Love! Charity event.

Saturday’s forecast calls for snow in First Avenue Park in downtown Newnan as Snow Tubing in the Park takes place. CAREing Paws is at the Peachtree City Library, the Chattahoochee Bend State Park hosts its first Eye-Spy Scavenger Hunt of 2020, and the Coweta Sports Hall of Fame Banquet honors three new inductees.

And on Sunday, Super Museum Sunday takes place in Moreland.

The Legacy Theatre in Tyrone offers up its stage production of Mamma Mia each day of the weekend.

Weather-wise, it will be a cool weekend with partly cloudy to sunny skies and highs of 46 on Friday, 54 on Saturday and 61 on Sunday. Overnight lows on Friday and Saturday will be 33 degrees. Rain chances are only at 20-30%.

Volunteers needed for Coweta Special Olympics Masters Bowling Event
Volunteers are needed to supervise the lanes, record scores and cheer the athletes on as they compete in the 2020 Area 6 Masters Bowling Championships at Junction Lanes Bowling Center.

Shop in the Name of Love! Charity Event
Come to Downtown Newnan for a 2-day special event where you can shop for the one you love and show local non-profits some love, too! On Friday and Saturday, participating merchants will be donating a percentage of sales to local charities. The event is being organized by Shop Downtown Newnan, an informal organization of merchants and other business owners, working together to make Downtown Newnan one of the area’s most memorable and enjoyable shopping districts.

Exercise is Medicine
The Carnegie Library hosts this 45-minute class on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. A wellness class for prevention and management of chronic disease conditions. Call for details.

Newnan Trolley Service
This free service is offered to take riders from downtown Newnan to Ashley Park. Runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pickup locations at City Hall, the Governor Ellis Arnall Parking Lot on Madison Street, and Ashley Park at Dillard’s (West Entrance) and Regal Cinemas. The first pickup is at 1 p.m. at City Hall with the last full route starting at 7 p.m.

Sweetland On Ice features a 5,500 square foot covered outdoor ice rink, skating helpers for beginners, seated area with fire pits, and tasty snacks from our concession area. Heritage Hawktion at The Newnan Centre
This Great Gatsby themed evening fundraiser will feature cocktails, dinner, and live music. Silent and live auction proceeds will benefit The Heritage School Fine Arts Department. Cocktail attire, 1920s theme encouraged.

Nixon Centre for the Arts hosts Jukebox Saturday Night
Jukebox Saturday Night is a music review of the great Big Bands during the 1930s, 40s, and 50s and will be at the Nixon Centre for the Arts. This fun-filled event for all ages captures the exciting sounds of great melodies and lyrics performed by an energetic group of instrumentalists and vocalists who will keep you moving in your seats, tapping your toes, and clapping your hands. Jukebox Saturday Night celebrates America’s Swing Era with performances of the greatest hits as recorded by Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Jimmy Lunceford, Harry James, Artie Shaw, Cab Calloway, Benny Goodman, Bunny Berigan, Count Basie, and more! Vocal selections will include song made famous by Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Bob Eberly, Helen O’Connell, Rosemary Clooney, and other vocal idols.

Eye-Spy Scavenger Hunt at The Bend
Bring your camera and take a look around Chattahoochee Bend State Park for the items on our scavenger hunt list. Take a picture with each item on our list and bring your completed list and pictures to the office to claim your prize. Event is free to everyone. Kedron Elementary hosts 16th Annual Heart to Heart 5K Run

Snow Tubing in the Park
Snow is definitely in the forecast for First Avenue Park in downtown Newnan. That’s right. The City of Newnan’s Leisure Services Department will host Snow Tubing in the Park, a free event and open to all ages on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be a snow tubing slide, snow tubes and a large snow play area. A coffee and hot cocoa food truck will be on site from 10 a.m. to noon with items to purchase. SnowKings of Atlanta will produce the snow to be used at this event. The snowmaking is similar to that utilized at ski resorts to supplement natural snow. Snow will be blown on the slide and tubing run as well as the 30 ft. by 30 ft. play area. In the event of rain, Snow Tubing in the Park will be rescheduled at a later date.

CAREing Paws at Peachtree City Library
The CAREing Paws Program utilizes registered therapy dogs to improve literacy skills for children. If your child struggles with reading this may be for you. Children must have a basic knowledge of reading. Open to children in Grades K-5. The library offers six 20 minute sessions. Parents must reserve a time slot in advance for their child. Children may bring a book or choose a book at the library. Registration Required. To register call the library at 770-631-2520.

Strange LaGrange: Ghosts, Legends, & Spirited History – A Walking Tour
Join Troup County Historical Society Docent and Southern Spirit Guide, Lewis Powell, for a ghostly tour of downtown LaGrange to hear about the spirited history of Troup County and those who call it home. Tours will depart from the Legacy Museum on Main, rain or shine, and move through the downtown area. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, and an umbrella if the weather calls for rain!
