The weekend events have slowed a bit here in Coweta County on the back end of the Fourth of July holiday. Many small businesses throughout the county are closed for the week and lots of folks have taken to the roads for a holiday getaway.

Some events to check out – later today is Ice Cream Cone Fridays at Monarch House Assisted Living in Newnan. Stop by for a free ice cream cone between 3-4 p.m. On Saturday, Market Day returns to downtown Newnan. Also a Hike and Paddle event is set for Chattahoochee Bend State Park and the 8th Annual Soles for Cole Charity Ride starts/end in Senoia.

Also on Saturday is Books on Blankets at the First Avenue Park in Newnan, plus the start of the 4th Annual Makers Day at the historic Train Depot in Newnan.

Weather-wise, expect afternoon showers and thunderstorms to pop up with a 60 percent rain chance on Friday, 30 percent on Saturday and 50 percent Sunday. Extremely high heat index values of 100 degrees Friday and 99 on Saturday are something to pay attention to.

July 4th Weekend Blowout Sale

Newnan Trolley Service
This free service is offered to take riders from downtown Newnan to Ashley Park. Runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pickup locations at City Hall, the Governor Ellis Arnall Parking Lot on Madison Street, and Ashley Park at Dillard’s (West Entrance) and Regal Cinemas. The first pickup is at 1 p.m. at City Hall with the last full route starting at 7 p.m.

Ice Cream Cone Fridays
At Monarch House Assisted Living. Did you know that July is National Ice Cream Month?  Every Friday in July Monarch House wants to help you celebrate by stopping by for a free ice cream cone.  If you have to grab and go, that is fine.  But if you can sit a spell, you will enjoy great oldies on our Juke Box and good conversation with new and old friends.  Hope you can stop by, get out of the heat and enjoy a refreshing ice cream cone on us!

Strange LaGrange: Ghosts, Legends, & Spirited History – A Walking Tour
Join Troup County Historical Society Docent and Southern Spirit Guide, Lewis Powell, for a ghostly tour of downtown LaGrange to hear about the spirited history of Troup County and those who call it home. Tours will depart from the Legacy Museum on Main, rain or shine, and move through the downtown area. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, and an umbrella if the weather calls for rain!

8th Annual Soles for Cole Charity Bike Ride
Spin through the quiet country roads of beautiful Coweta, Spalding and Meriweather counties. Well-marked routes include 35, 59, 75 and 100 mile distance options and an 8-mile family ride. Ride is fully-supported with well-stocked rest stop nutrition, ice and hydration. SAG vehicles on the course. Enjoy a delicious post-ride meal and refreshments in an air-conditioned hall. Triathletes welcome. Helmets required. Proceeds go to support Cystic Fibrosis and Soles for Cole. Start/Finish at Senoia United Methodist Church. Register at active.com.

Hike and Paddle at The Bend

Scavenger Hunt at The Bend
Bring your camera and take a look around Chattahoochee Bend State Park for the items on our scavenger hunt list. Take a picture with each item on our list and bring your completed list and pictures to the office to claim your prize. Event is free to everyone. Stop by the visitor center to pick up your scavenger hunt checkoff list!

In downtown LaGrange. Held at Flag Pole Park at the corner of Main Street and LaFayette Parkway. Plenty of free parking next to LaGrange Art Museum. Vendors are set up in the shade along Main Street in front of 86’d, YAMA and Plum Southern, and Flag Pole Park.

Market Day in Downtown Newnan
Market Day is the very first Saturday of each month from April to December in downtown Newnan. The Market features over 50 vendors made up of local artisans, artists and farmers offering handmade, homemade and homegrown products, with new vendors and new products each month. Market Day favorites include: fresh locally grown produce, honey, jams & jellies, salsa, pottery, art, freshly baked goods, handmade furniture, birdhouses, wood art, and much more! Pickin’ on the Square also occurs simultaneously each month during the Market Day. It’s the vernacular sounds of local musicians playing acoustic music around the Courthouse Lawn and side streets.
