The official start to summer is finally here as this weekend’s calendar is full of lots of fun and exciting things to do in and around Coweta County.

Starting with tonight, the Newnan Carnegie Library is hosting a Middle Grades Movie Night for kids ages 10 and up. And for the adults, just a block away Leaf and Bean has a wine tasting event starting at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday, if you are looking for a Farmers Market you will find one in the area. The Coweta County Farmers Market, Market on Main in LaGrange, plus the town of Brooks each play host.

The Chattahoochee Bend State Park has three Saturday events – Scavenger Hunt, Hike and Paddle, and Meet The Turtles.

Other events taking place are the Amateur Ham Radio Field Day, Car Show and BBQ at Sharpsburg Baptist Church, CAREing Paws Therapy Dogs at the Powell Library, the RPM Artists & Makers Pop Up Market and the Newnan FBC Freedom Celebration 2019.

And if you like music, plenty is on tap at local venues including the Robert Cray Band and Marc Cohn at the Fred, Yacht Rock Revue at Sweetland Amphitheater, Sounds of Summer Concert at Ashley Park, Blood on the Harp at Vinylyte Records and Doug Kees 30 Year Celebration at Wadsworth Auditorium.

Weather-wise, the National Weather Service says it will be hot with a slight chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm on Saturday and Sunday. Highs near 90 degrees, but Saturday’s heat index could reach 99.

AARP Drivers Safety Class
Held at the Senoia Library. The class is open to ALL ages and you do not have to be an AARP member to attend. The class will cover the rules of the road and also review new state of Georgia driving laws. Class completion could save you $$$$ on your car insurance!! All participants please bring your drivers license, AARP card if member and a brown bag lunch.

Newnan Trolley Service
This free service is offered to take riders from downtown Newnan to Ashley Park. Runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pickup locations at City Hall, the Governor Ellis Arnall Parking Lot on Madison Street, and Ashley Park at Dillard’s (West Entrance) and Regal Cinemas. The first pickup is at 1 p.m. at City Hall with the last full route starting at 7 p.m.

Join us for a 5.5-mile hike up the Riverside Trail at Chattahoochee Bend State Park along with a hour long paddle down. You MUST preregister for this event by calling. Kayaks are available for rent if needed for $30.

Scavenger Hunt at The Bend
Bring your camera and take a look around Chattahoochee Bend State Park for the items on our scavenger hunt list Saturdays in May. Take a picture with each item on our list and bring your completed list and pictures to the office to claim your prize. Event is free to everyone. Stop by the visitor center to pick up your scavenger hunt checkoff list!
