One of the busiest weekend calendars of the year is set, beginning today, with at least 14 Halloween or Fall Festival-themed events taking place in-and-around Coweta County.

Weather will play a part in the weekend events as well with rain chances above 60 percent each day through Sunday night. Check social media to find out if events are re-scheduled, postponed or cancelled.

Starting today (Friday), the Newnan Carnegie Library has a pair of events – Exercise is Medicine and a Military History program. Downtown Senoia businesses host their annual Trick or Treat affair, Piedmont Newnan Hospital is hosting it’s inaugural Soiree at The Newnan Centre, Newnan-Coweta Historical Society has a Spirit Tasting, Leaf & Bean hosts Boos and Booze, and all six local prep football teams are in action, three playing at home (East Coweta, Newnan and Heritage School).

On Saturday, the Chatthoochee Bend State Park has its Scavenger Hunt in the morning and Halloween event later in the day, Keep Newnan Beautiful has a Paint Recycle event, Piedmont Newnan Fitness Center hosts the 12th Annual Autumn Chase, it’s DEA Drug Take-Back Day at four locations, Fall Festivals take place at Ashley Park, Peachtree City’s Drake Field, New Hope Baptist Church and a fundraiser ‘Fierce Georgia’ at Grantville’s Rednexican, Nissan of Newnan has it’s own Trunk or Treat event, and the Oak Hill Cemetery Tour sponsored by Dunc’s BBQ Kitchen, the McRitchie-Hollis Museum Haunted Mansion and Main Street Newnan’s Tucked Away Music Festival wrap up the day.

And finally on Sunday, the Sacred Harp Singing is at the Historic Coweta County Courthouse, there’s Howloween on the Linc for Pets, a Jens Voigt Meet and Greet at Atlanta Trek, and a Masterwork’s Chorale presentation “The Music of Living” at The Nixon Centre.

Theatrical events at Serenbe Playhouse – “The Sleepy Hollow Experience” – and Wadsworth Auditorium – “Dracula” by Southern Arc Dance. And Kris Youmans provides below the music calendar for the weekend at the area’s local venues.

Weather-wise, a couple of systems – one from the Gulf of Mexico and another from the Northwest – will bring a lot of moisture into the area thus creating an 80 percent rain chance today, 70 percent tonight, 50 percent on Saturday, 80 percent on Saturday night then 60 percent on Sunday. High temperatures will range from 66 to 74 degrees and the lows from 63 to 54.

Newnan Trolley Service
This free service is offered to take riders from downtown Newnan to Ashley Park. Runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pickup locations at City Hall, the Governor Ellis Arnall Parking Lot on Madison Street, and Ashley Park at Dillard’s (West Entrance) and Regal Cinemas. The first pickup is at 1 p.m. at City Hall with the last full route starting at 7 p.m.

American Military History at The Carnegie
Dr. Walter Todd has a Ph.D. in History but focuses mainly on American Military History. Dr. Todd has been a professor at the University of West Georgia as well as retired from West Georgia Technical College and enjoys sharing his love for America’s past, present, and future through his teachings. He will be covering the Doolittle Raid on Japan which occurred on August 18, 1942. Reservations are requested and can be made by visiting: Eventbrite. Participating merchants in downtown Senoia will host their annual Trick or Treat event. Fun-filled event for the kids. Merchants will have signs and/or balloons to indicate which is taking part in the event.

Piedmont Newnan Soiree
The inaugural philanthropic event benefiting Piedmont Newnan Hospital is set for The Terrace at the Newnan Centre. This fundraising event assists Piedmont Newnan, a not-for-profit hospital, to provide complimentary support services for cancer patients at the Thomas F. Chapman Family Cancer Wellness Center.

Participants will partake in small bites paired with scotches, bourbons, and whiskeys, and have the opportunity to learn about the “spirits” that once lived in the historic home. Strange LaGrange: Ghosts, Legends, & Spirited History – A Walking Tour
Join Troup County Historical Society Docent and Southern Spirit Guide, Lewis Powell, for a ghostly tour of downtown LaGrange to hear about the spirited history of Troup County and those who call it home. Tours will depart from the Legacy Museum on Main, rain or shine, and move through the downtown area. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, and an umbrella if the weather calls for rain!

12th Annual Autumn Chase at Carl Miller Park
The Piedmont Newnan Hospital Fitness Center will host the 12th annual Autumn Chase around the beautiful lakes at Newnan Utilities’ Carl Miller Park in Newnan. The Autumn Chase Trail Race, which supports the fitness center’s community fitness programs, consists of a 15k (nine miles) race beginning at 8 a.m., a 5k (3.2 miles) race beginning at 8:30 a.m., a one-mile fun run starting at 9:15 a.m., and a tot trot at 9:30 a.m. Those interested in supporting the event but not participating in the races can enjoy activities for the entire family, including Kids’ Castle Park, sponsor giveaways and more. Fierce Georgia’ Minor is a sweet little 2 year old girl who was born with Trisomy 18 also known as Edwards Syndrome. This fundraising event is family friendly and will have a fall/Halloween theme with candy, facepainting, door prizes, raffle tickets to be purchased and you will be able to buy food in the Rednexican. Come and have fun while supporting this wonderful, local family! There will be a $10.00 donation per child but all events will be free except for food at the Rednexican.

4th Annual Oak Hill Cemetery Tour

McRitchie’s Haunted Mansion and Fall Festival
The Halloween season is a particular favorite of the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society (NCHS) and McRitchie-Hollis Museum, and the organization is celebrating with McRitchie’s Haunted Mansion and Fall Festival — a family-friendly haunted house honoring the spooky, ghostly, and mysterious aspects of Coweta County history. McRitchie’s Haunted Mansion and Fall Festival is intended to be an affordable, family-friendly event. Guests purchase tickets at the event to participate in activity booths. Tickets are only $1 each and festival activities range from 1 to 5 tickets with the Haunted Mansion tour being five (5) tickets per person (adult and children). The first Haunted Mansion tour begins at 4 p.m.

Jens Voigt Meet and Greet
Atlanta Trek in Newnan is very excited to host an opportunity for our cycling community to meet world famous champion cyclist Jens Voigt. Stop into our Newnan store to meet and talk with Jens and receive a signed poster. During his cycling career, Voigt raced for several teams, including UCI ProTeam Trek Factory Racing. He is a five time winner of the Critérium International and has clenched stage victories in the Tour de France twice among several dozen of other racing accolades. In 2014 he set a record for the longest distance cycled in one hour on a bicycle.
