Weekend Weather: Slightly cooler temperatures, chance of rain in forecast

Not as hot best describes this weekend’s weather forecast for Coweta County.

The Newnan-Coweta County Airport weather station has recorded high temperatures of 90 degrees and higher in 10 of the last 12 days, including 96 on Wednesday and 95 yesterday. The National Weather Service is expecting a high of 93 today, 87 on Saturday and 89 on Sunday with 30 to 40 percent rain chances.

The highest temperature recorded so far in Coweta this year was 97 degrees on July 15 with a 107-degree Heat Index value. 

Overnight lows for the weekend will be near 70.

The best chance for rain will be on Monday and Tuesday as both days have a 50 percent rain probability.

FRIDAY – A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3pm. Sunny, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 98. East wind around 5 mph becoming north in the afternoon.

FRIDAY NIGHT – A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind around 5 mph.

SATURDAY – A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

SUNDAY – A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Southeast wind around 5 mph.

MONDAY – A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 90.
