Weekly Report: Coweta continues to see declines in new cases

Below is the weekly summary of COVID-19 data from March 2-8, 2023, from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

COWETA COUNTY
Coweta County posted a decrease or no change in two of the three major COVID-19 categories in the past reporting week of March 2-8.
Coweta confirmed 35 new COVID-19 cases for an average of 5.0 per day. It was 12 cases lower than the previous week and the lowest weekly total since 32 for the week of October 20-26, 2022.
In addition, Coweta posted 0 deaths last week. That figure marks just the first time since the final two weeks of December 2022 that the county had back-to-back weeks with no deaths.
The only category to see an increase was hospitalizations with 9, up 6 from the previous week.
For the month of March, Coweta has confirmed 37 new cases (4.6 per day) with 0 deaths and 9 hospitalizations.
Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, 201,916 vaccines have been applied to Coweta residents thru March 8 with 92 last week. The Coweta and Georgia vaccination rates follow – Coweta is at 56 percent with one dose (Georgia is at 67 percent), 52 percent fully vaccinated (Georgia is at 59 percent), 47 percent have been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot (Georgia 47 percent), and 24 percent have had an additional dose (Georgia 27 percent).
The overall positive test rate in Coweta is 13.8 percent this week, with the two-week infection rate dropping to 11.7 percent (from 14.0 last week).
Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 27,904 cases, 459 deaths (with an additional 68 probable deaths) and 2,169 hospitalizations through March 8 from when the pandemic began some 34-plus months ago. Coweta ranks 19th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 16th in COVID-related hospitalizations.

GEORGIA
Georgia had declines in three of the four major COVID-19 categories for the week of March 2-8, 2023.
Georgia confirmed 2,082 cases for an average of 297.4 per day last week, falling by 754 cases from the previous week. It’s the lowest number of new cases in a week for the state since 2,387 the week of October 20-26, 2022 and the fourth consecutive week to see a decline.
The other categories to have decreases included deaths with 49 (down 19), and hospitalizations with 234 (down 104).
The lone category to see an increase was ICU Admits with 25 (up 4).
The overall positive test rate in Georgia this week remains at 12.5 percent, with the two-week infection rate falling to 7.9 percent (9.6 percent last week).
Overall, Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 2,349,972 cases, 35,117 deaths, 138,532 hospitalizations and 17,673 ICU admits through March 8 from when the pandemic began in March 2020.
