Weekly Report: Coweta County sees lower numbers in all categories

COWETA COUNTY
Coweta County saw decreases in the three major COVID-19 categories in the past reporting week of February 23 to March 1.
Coweta confirmed 47 new COVID-19 cases for an average of 6.7 per day. It was 21 cases lower than the previous week and the lowest weekly total since 32 for the week of October 20-26, 2022.
In addition, Coweta posted 0 deaths and only 3 hospitalizations this week, the fewest hospitalizations since 2 the week of November 3-9, 2022.
For the month of February, Coweta reported 360 new cases (12.9 per day) with 3 deaths and 37 hospitalizations. Both cases and hospitalizations were the fewest monthly totals since November 2022.
Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, 201,824 vaccines have been applied to Coweta residents thru March 1 with 137 last week. The Coweta and Georgia vaccination rates follow – Coweta is at 56 percent with one dose (Georgia is at 67 percent), 52 percent fully vaccinated (Georgia is at 59 percent), 47 percent have been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot (Georgia 47 percent), and 24 percent have had an additional dose (Georgia 27 percent).
The overall positive test rate in Coweta is 13.8 percent this week, with the two-week infection rate dropping to 14.0 percent (from 16.8 last week).
Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 27,869 cases, 459 deaths (with an additional 68 probable deaths) and 2,160 hospitalizations through March 1 from when the pandemic began some 34-plus months ago. Coweta ranks 19th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 16th in COVID-related hospitalizations.

GEORGIA
Georgia had declines in three of the four major COVID-19 categories for the week of February 23-March 1.
Georgia confirmed 2,836 cases for an average of 405.1 per day last week, falling by 840 cases from the previous week. It’s the lowest number of new cases in a week for the state since 2,706 the week of Nov. 10-16, 2022.
The other categories to have decreases included hospitalizations with 338 (down 81) and ICU admits with 21 (down 22).
The lone category to see an increase was deaths with 68 (up 3). In fact, COVID-related deaths have increased in 7 of the past 10 weeks with a high of 123 the week of January 26-February 1.
The overall positive test rate in Georgia this week remains at 12.5 percent, with the two-week infection rate falling to 9.6 percent (10.9 percent last week).
Overall, Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 2,347,890 cases, 35,068 deaths, 138,298 hospitalizations and 17,648 ICU admits through March 1 from when the pandemic began in March 2020.
