Weekly Report: Coweta County sees increases in past week

THE SKINNY – Coweta County experienced rises in the three major COVID-19 categories in the past reporting week.

Below is the weekly summary of COVID-19 data thru Wednesday, November 16 from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

COWETA COUNTY

Coweta County confirmed higher numbers in new COVID-19 cases, deaths and hospitalizations in the past reporting week of Nov. 10-16 from a week earlier.

Coweta confirmed 66 new cases for an average of 9.4 per day this past week, some 16 cases more than the previous week.

In addition, Coweta recorded 1 death (up 1 from previous week) and 11 hospitalizations (up 9). The death was the first COVID-related death in Coweta in just under three weeks.

Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, 197,008 vaccines have been applied to Coweta residents thru Nov. 16 with 590 last week. The Coweta and Georgia vaccination rates did not change from a week ago – Coweta is at 56 percent with one dose (Georgia is at 66 percent), 51 percent fully vaccinated (Georgia is at 58 percent), 46 percent have been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot (Georgia 45 percent), and 23 percent have had an additional dose (Georgia 26 percent).

The overall positive test rate in Coweta was 13.7 percent on Nov. 16, with the two-week infection rate increasing to 8.4 percent. Last week, those test rates were at 13.7 and 6.9 respectively.

Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 26,133 cases, 448 deaths (with an additional 67 probable deaths) and 1,970 hospitalizations thru Nov. 16 from when the pandemic began some 32-plus months ago. Coweta ranks 19th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 16th in COVID-related hospitalizations.

GEORGIA

Statewide, Georgia had decreases in all five major COVID-19 categories for the week of Nov. 10-16.

Georgia confirmed 2,706 cases for an average of 386.5 per day last week – falling by 799 cases from the previous week of Nov. 3-10.

Other categories that fell last week included deaths with 75 (down 23), hospitalizations with 453 (down 6), ICU admits at 27 (down 4) and COVID patients hospitalized, standing at 593 which is down 13 from the previous week.

The overall positive test rate in Georgia this week is 12.5 percent, with the two-week infection rate dropping from 5.4 percent last week to 5.3 now.

Overall, Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 2,258,328 cases, 33,975 deaths, 129,654 hospitalizations and 17,145 ICU admits thru Nov. 16 from when the pandemic began.
