Weekly Report: Coweta COVID-19 numbers rise slightly in cases, deaths

THE SKINNY – Coweta County saw a slight increase in both cases and deaths during last week’s reporting period (Oct. 23-29).
Below is a summary of COVID-19 data thru Friday, Oct. 29 from the Georgia Department of Public Health.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
Coweta County confirmed 71 new COVID-19 cases, 11 deaths and 12 hospitalizations during the week of Oct. 23-29, increasing by two in the categories of cases and deaths and falling by seven people hospitalized from the previous week. It was the first time in a couple of weeks Coweta saw an increase in any of the three categories.
For October, Coweta has recorded 399 cases or 13.75 per day, which is some 1,159 fewer cases than in September. Coweta posted 1,558 cases last month for an average of 51.9 per day. However, Coweta did set the monthly record for deaths last week, now totaling 52, and has had 88 people hospitalized in October which is the 3rd-highest total for a month. The final totals for October will be available later today.
Coweta did see in increase in vaccinations last week with 2,711 administered, up 961 from a week earlier. The county now has 69,670 people with at least one dose or 49 percent and 63,584 which are fully vaccinated for a rate of 44 percent. Full vaccination rates for neighboring counties include Fayette at 61 percent, Spalding 40 percent, Carroll 37 percent, Troup 36 percent and both Heard and Meriwether at 29 percent.
The positive test rate this week of all persons tested in Coweta was 11.0 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 5.3 percent. Last week, those test rates were at 11.1 and 7.6, respectively.
Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 12,692 cases, 333 deaths (with an additional 32 probable deaths) and 799 hospitalizations thru Oct. 29 from when the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 26th in COVID-related hospitalizations.
GEORGIA CASES
Georgia confirmed 6,447 COVID-19 cases for an average of 921.0 per day for the reporting period of Oct. 23-29. It was a decrease of 190 cases from last week’s period (Oct. 16-22) and the lowest weekly total for the state since July 20-26. Wednesday’s daily total of 1,467 were the most in a single day last week for the state.
Georgia also had 547 deaths (up 59 from last week), 1,076 hospitalizations (down 120) and 140 ICU admits (down 16).
Regarding vaccinations, the Georgia Department of Public Health reports that 11,250,022 vaccinations have been applied in Georgia (207,927 in the past week, up 61,146 from the previous week) through October 29. Of those, 5,813,346 Georgia residents or 56 percent have 1 dose of the vaccine while 5,174,759 or 50 percent have been fully vaccinated.
Three of the four patient census categories dropped in the past week. ICU Beds in Use fell by 2 and now stands at 2,478 or 84.0 percent capacity statewide. The number of COVID Patients Hospitalized dropped by 231 and is now at 1,320 or 8.2 percent of all people hospitalized in Georgia. And Adult Ventilators in Use fell by 57 and is at 1,202 or 29.7 percent capacity by the end of the week.
In-Patient Hospital Beds in Use saw an increase of 159 and now totals 12,966 or 83.7 percent capacity.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.1 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 4.5 percent. Last week, those numbers were 11.1 and 5.7, respectively.
Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 1,263,757 cases, 24,786 deaths, 86,115 hospitalizations and 13,477 ICU admits thru Oct. 29 from when the pandemic began.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8, 2021); deaths (188 on Oct. 15, 2021); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6, 2021); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12, 2020).
