250th Anniversary Deadline Approaching

The City of Newnan is calling all writers! In honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we are excited to announce a writing contest. Enter your original short story or poem for a chance to win. Entries will be accepted from Monday, May 25th to Saturday, July 4th. Winners will be notified via email.
Email your submission as an attachment to: [email protected]. You will receive a “thank you” email within 48 hours of submitting your work. If you do not receive this email, please double check that you sent your short story/poem to the correct email address. Guidelines for submissions:
There will be three age groups:
Children (up to age 11), Teens (12-18 years) and Adults (19+)
Entries must be typed, double-spaced, and attached to the email as a file attachment (must be submitted as a Word Doc, Google Doc, or PDF).
Entries should be centered around the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Please include your name, age, phone number, and email address
Entries may not exceed 2,000 words for short stories or essays and 200 words for poetry.
Limit 1 poem and 1 short story entry per person
Work must be original, not AI, not previously published, and titled
Winners will be notified via email.
Contest winners in each age group will read their work at the Newnan City Council Meeting on Tuesday, July 21st at 6:30 pm
Work will be judged on originality, clarity, ideas presented, voice, word choice, presentation, sentence structure, syntax and spelling.
