From Coweta Community Foundation Press Release

The Pink Posse of Georgia, a local nonprofit that gives funds directly to families impacted by cancer, now has its funds with the Coweta Community Foundation.

The Pink Posse was founded in 2006 by Alice Ramsey of Brooks, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005. Then a flight attendant with Delta Air Lines, Ramsey said she quickly realized how much of a hit her paycheck took while getting treatment, and she soon decided it was time to help others facing such challenges following a cancer diagnosis. The Pink Posse doesn’t help with medical bills but instead focuses on a very practical need, electricity, helping with electric bills for up to three months.

“You can’t live without electricity,” Ramsey said, and she noted that over 800 families in Coweta and Fayette counties have now been helped by the Pink Posse. She said she decided to focus on the local needs because her parents taught her to “take care of your own corner of the world” first.

Ramsey’s involvement with breast cancer awareness is legendary. Though she’s now retired, she was still flying with Delta in 2007 when she first proposed the idea of having flight attendants wear pink uniforms during October to raise awareness of breast cancer, an idea that quickly gained the support of then-CEO Richard Anderson.

For many years, Ramsey has hosted an annual fundraiser for the Pink Posse at her home, and other groups raise funds year-round. The East Coweta High School cheerleaders are big supporters, and they have raised some $25,000 for the Pink Posse over the years. Ramsey noted that Summer Hill Baptist Church recently hosted a fundraiser as well. “It’s amazing what people do,” she said.

Ramsey said she wants supporters to know that “no donation is too small,” and anyone who would like to make a donation may visit cowetafoundation.org and click on the green “Donate” tab to select Pink Posse of Georgia.
