Weekly Report: Cases fall, hospitalizations rise in Coweta

THE SKINNY – Coweta County saw its weekly COVID-19 case totals once again decrease, the seventh time in the past ten weeks to do so.
Below is the weekly summary of COVID-19 data thru Wednesday, October 26 from the Georgia Department of Public Health.
COWETA COUNTY
Coweta County confirmed 32 new COVID-19 cases in the past reporting week of Oct. 20-26, which was a decrease of 19 from a week earlier (Oct. 13-19). Coweta averaged only 4.6 cases per day and weekly totals fell to among the lowest since two weeks ago (29) and a three-week stretch of 23, 29 and 28, respectively, in early April 2022.
Coweta also recorded 0 deaths (no change) but hospitalizations rose to 12, up 7 from last week.
In October, Coweta has confirmed a total of 147 cases (5.7 per day) with 1 death and 26 hospitalizations. It’s the lowest number cases in a month since 107 in March 2022, deaths since 2 in April 2020 and hospitalizations since 10 in July 2021.
Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, 194,539 vaccines have been applied to Coweta residents thru Oct. 26 with 1,189 last week. The Coweta and Georgia vaccination rates remain unchanged from a week ago – 56 percent with one dose (Georgia is at 66 percent), 51 percent fully vaccinated (Georgia is at 58 percent), 45 percent have been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot (Georgia 45 percent), and 23 percent have had an additional dose (Georgia 26 percent).
The overall positive test rate in Coweta was 13.8 percent on Oct. 26, with the two-week infection rate dropping to 5.4 percent (the lowest two-week rate since mid-April). Last week, those test rates were at 13.8 and 5.8 respectively.
Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 25,955 cases, 446 deaths (with an additional 67 probable deaths) and 1,949 hospitalizations thru Oct. 26 from when the pandemic began some 31-plus months ago. Coweta ranks 19th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 16th in COVID-related hospitalizations.
GEORGIA
Statewide, Georgia recorded decreases in four of five major COVID-19 categories for the week of Oct. 20-26.
Georgia confirmed 2,387 cases for an average of 341.0 per day last week – dropping by 427 cases from the previous week of Oct. 13-19. The state has seen a decrease in 10 of the past 11 weeks.
Other totals that fell last week included 61 deaths (down 31), 385 hospitalizations (down 82) and 30 ICU admits (down 12).
The number of COVID patients hospitalized was the only category to rise, which it did by 33. The Oct. 26 total was listed at 554 or 3.4 percent of all people hospitalized in Georgia.
The overall positive test rate in Georgia this week is 12.6 percent, with the two-week infection rate falling from 5.5 percent last week to 5.1 now.
Overall, Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 2,249,087 cases, 33,740 deaths, 128,266 hospitalizations and 17,052 ICU admits thru Oct. 26 from when the pandemic began.
