From Coweta County School System Press Release

The Coweta County Board of Education is preparing to adopt new academic-year calendars for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 school years, and an online survey is available throughout October for parent and school feedback on calendar options.

The school board intends to adopt a two-year cycle of school calendars in order to provide families with the ability to schedule vacation plans. Two calendar options for each school year can be found in the links below.  Scroll down each calendar page to see both years under each option.

Option 1 – Closely follows the calendar used by the school system in recent years.  Among the holiday breaks scheduled, a full-week Winter Break (in February) is scheduled. School starts Friday, August 1, in 2025.

Option 2 – Differs by shortening the February Winter Break to two days.  School starts Monday, August 6, in 2025.

Take the School Calendar Survey – (or go to www.cowetaschools.net to find links for the calendar options and the survey)

Both proposed calendar options, linked above, include a two-months plus Summer Break (all of June and July), the Labor Day holiday, an October Fall Break (a teacher workday followed by a Monday holiday), a full week Thanksgiving Break, a Christmas and New Year’s Break of at least two weeks (10-plus days), the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday, a mid-Winter Break (of either five or two days), a full-week Spring Break in April, and the school-year end before Memorial Day. Two Teacher Work Days have also been kept in March to serve as possible inclement weather days in case of school closures that require student make-ups. They would be used as teacher workdays/student holidays otherwise.

Both proposed calendars maintain 180 days of student instruction, divided generally into two 90-day semesters.  The first semester must conclude before the start of holidays in December to allow for high school course completion and final exams prior to the Christmas and New Year’s break.

The survey regarding these proposed calendars, and school calendar ideas, is open for public comment through November 1.  Following public input, the board intends to adopt a final two-year calendar cycle later this fall.

2026-2027 option one is the best choice because school starts on a Monday, it pisses everyone off when school starts on a Friday regardless of the date. Plus the extra break on February is beneficial. Do not pick 2026-2027 option 2 for the love of God. 🙂

2026-2027 option one is the best option because starting school begins on a Monday. It pisses everyone off when school starts on a later day of the week every year which is what option two is. Plus the winter break in February is longer in option one which will be beneficial for families. Please for the love of God decide on the first option of 2026-2027 calendar. Stay blessed :).
