DEA Drug Take Back set for Saturday, 3 big events postponed

From Staff Reports

The weather forecast has created a bit of havoc with some event scheduling for Saturday here in Coweta County.

Since the National Weather Service in Peachtree City has said to expect a 90% rain chance tomorrow, with the possibility of strong storms in the afternoon, three big events have either rescheduled or canceled. One event will continue as planned – The DEA Drug Take Back at the Newnan Police Department.

The DEA Drug Take Back is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Newnan Police Department, located at 1 Joseph Hannah Blvd. Folks can bring their old, expired prescription drugs to safely dispose of at this event. This event is sponsored by the Newnan Police, Drug Free Coweta, Coweta Force and Keep Newnan Beautiful.

Below are the 3 events which will not take place tomorrow (April 24). The snippets are from their respective Facebook posts.

#NewnanStrong Music & Art Tornado Relief Benefit – rescheduled May 8, 5-10 p.m.

NEW DATE: Saturday, May 8 there will be a #newnanstrong tornado relief event in Historic Downtown Newnan. Join us as we bring the community together for music, art, food and drinks. It’s going to be a great night, for a great cause. Come out and support your neighbors!

All donations will be given to @hope_global_newnan to help local families in dire need from tornado damage.

Ready, Set, LINC! – rescheduled Friday, May 7, 4-8 p.m. at The Newnan Centre

Free and open to the public, this block party style event will feature live music, food trucks, vendor exhibits, bicycle demonstrations, a kayak tank, a rock climbing wall, a one-mile fun run, and much more. Come one, come all!

The Newnan Junior Service League – Big Event 2021

Our Big Event is canceled due to projected thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in the afternoon this Saturday. With it being an outdoor event, we have watched the weather closely and feel this is the best decision to make at this time. All of the funds that are not being utilized to host the event will go to tornado relief efforts and our grant recipient, Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity.

We are working on a new plan to host our silent auction and will share information once it’s finalized.

Thank you to all of our sponsors and community supporters for understanding that the safety and well being of our members and guests is of the upmost importance.  We appreciate your patience and understanding of our decision.  We value your dedication and your loyal support.  Thank you for all that you do for us and our community!
