Friday: Coweta, Georgia each set single-day highs for COVID cases

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Friday, Dec. 18.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
On Friday, Coweta County confirmed a total of 72 new cases of COVID-19 which is the county’s highest single-day total since the pandemic began. It surpassed the old high of 67 from Nov. 17. No deaths or hospitalizations were reported today.
Coweta has now been above 30 cases for 10 straight days and has posted double-digit cases for 35 consecutive days. With one more day to go, Coweta has also broken the record for cases in a week (Sunday-Saturday) with 329 or 54.8 per day. The previous weekly high of 300 was recorded just last week.
In the past 24 hours, the age group of 35-44 year olds had 15 new cases of COVID for the highest of any group.

For the month of December, the county has posted 781 cases for an average of 43.4 per day with 4 deaths and 19 hospitalizations. The 781 cases is 2nd-highest monthly total, trailing only August with 953 cases. The 43.4 daily rate is ahead of the high mark for a month which was 30.7, also in August.
To date, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 4434 cases, 72 deaths (with an additional 5 probable deaths) and 196 hospitalizations. Coweta remains 25th among all Georgia counties for most cumulative cases.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 8.6 percent, and in the last two weeks, is at 13.2 percent.
GEORGIA CASES
Georgia also set a single-day high for cases on Friday with 6092, bettering the old mark of 6062 on Dec. 10. It’s only the 2nd time that Georgia has been over 6000 cases in a day since the start of the coronavirus and pushed the cumulative total over 500,000.
Other Friday numbers included 38 deaths, 346 hospitalizations and 42 ICU admits. It is the 4th-consecutive day with 300-or-more hospitalizations, just one shy of the high of 5 days (July 28-Aug. 1).
Presently, there are 3107 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, which is 19.2 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is 12,986 or at 85.7 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2516 or 86.2 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use in GA is presently at 1250 or 35.2 percent capacity.
Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 500,265 cases, 9396 deaths, 39,064 hospitalizations and 7009 ICU admits.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 9.6 percent, and in the last two weeks, it stands at 13.3 percent.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (6092 on Dec. 18); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
