THE SKINNY – Coweta County recorded its 18th COVID-related death in March on Friday.
The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Friday, March 19. Below is a summary with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
On Friday, Coweta County confirmed 8 new COVID-19 cases with 1 death and 0 hospitalizations. It’s the 18th COVID-related death recorded during the month of March as the county is averaging 0.95 deaths per day.
Case-wise, Coweta’s 8 on Friday was the 5th time in the past 8 days to be below 10 cases. It was also the 15th time this month below 20 cases, which is the most in a month since 19 times in November.
In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 67 COVID cases (9.6 per day), 5 deaths and 4 hospitalizations.
For March, Coweta has posted 295 cases (15.5 per day) with 18 deaths (0.9 per day) and 21 hospitalizations (1.1 per day). For comparison, here are February’s numbers and per day averages – 886 cases (31.6 per day), 41 deaths (1.5 per day), and 39 hospitalizations (1.4 per day).
The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.4 percent, and in the last two weeks has dropped to 4.5 percent (lowest since recording 4.5 percent on Oct. 8).
Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8320 cases, 168 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 302 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 19th in deaths due to COVID.
The age groups of 15-24 and 35-44 year olds had the most new COVID cases on Friday with 2 each.

GEORGIA CASES
Georgia confirmed 1261 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, the 20th consecutive day below 2000. The last time that occurred was Oct. 3-22. Also on Friday, the state posted 42 deaths, 101 hospitalizations and 21 ICU admits.
Three of four patient census categories rose on Friday. ICU bed occupancy increased to 2409 (up 27 from Thursday) or 79.1 percent capacity. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state increased to 12,205 (up 32) or at 80.2 percent capacity. And Adult Ventilators in use rose, now standing at 1100 (up 8) or 29.8 percent capacity.
COVID patients hospitalized in Georgia continued to fall, now standing at 1253 (down 18) which is 8.0 percent of all statewide hospital patients.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 5.2 percent.
Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 841,084 cases, 16,095 deaths, 57,822 hospitalizations and 9460 ICU admits since the pandemic began.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
