Thursday: Coweta adds 16th, 17th COVID-related deaths in March

THE SKINNY – Coweta County reported 2 deaths on Thursday, the 16th and 17th in March.
The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Thursday, March 18. Below is a summary with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
Coweta County confirmed 11 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday with 2 deaths and 0 hospitalizations. It’s the 16th and 17th COVID-related deaths in the county this month, averaging almost 1 per day (0.9).
Case-wise, Coweta’s 11 on Thursday was the 14th time this month below 20 cases. That’s the most times in a month below 20 cases since 19 in November.
In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 68 COVID cases (9.7 per day), 6 deaths and 5 hospitalizations.
For March, Coweta has posted 287 cases (15.9 per day) with 17 deaths (0.9 per day) and 21 hospitalizations (1.2 per day). For comparison, here are February’s numbers and per day averages – 886 cases (31.6 per day), 41 deaths (1.5 per day), and 39 hospitalizations (1.4 per day).
The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.4 percent, and in the last two weeks has dropped to 4.7 percent (lowest since recording 4.5 percent on Oct. 8).
Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8312 cases, 167 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 302 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 20th in deaths due to COVID.
The age group of 15-24 year olds had the most new COVID cases on Thursday with 5.

GEORGIA CASES
On Thursday, Georgia confirmed 1253 new COVID-19 cases, the 19th consecutive day below 2000. The last time that occurred was Oct. 4-22. Also on Thursday, the state had 56 deaths, 86 hospitalizations and 15 ICU admits. The 56 deaths did push the cumulative total for Georgia over 16,000.
Three of four patient census categories dropped on Thursday. ICU bed occupancy fell to 2382 (down 21 from Wednesday) or 78.8 percent capacity. . Adult Ventilators in use fell, now standing at 1092 (down 2) or 29.6 percent capacity. And COVID patients hospitalized in Georgia continued to fall, now standing at 1271 (down 13) which is 8.1 percent of all statewide hospital patients.
The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state increased to 12,173 (up 36) or at 80.0 percent capacity.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 5.2 percent.
Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 839,823 cases, 16,053 deaths, 57,721 hospitalizations and 9439 ICU admits since the pandemic began.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
