Lori Wood of Piedmont Newnan named Promise360 President’s Award Winner
From Special Reports
Lori Wood, Staff RN, PACU, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital, recently received this year’s Piedmont Healthcare Promise360 President’s Award, which is given to the employee who goes above and beyond for patients, visitors or their co-workers.
Each month, Piedmont names a monthly Promise360 winner, who must be nominated by another employee, at each of its 11 hospitals, its Physician Enterprise and its System Office. Each entity then selects an annual winner. On October 3, each of the 13 annual entity champions plus two spotlight winners from each entity gathered with their friends and family at a reception to crown the year’s champion from among Piedmont’s 22,000-plus employees.
The awards are given to those who best exemplify Piedmont’s purpose “to make a positive difference in every life we touch” and Piedmont’s values:
• Championing Patient-Centered Care
• Being an Owner
• Embracing the Future
• Exemplifying Teamwork & Connections
“The champions and spotlight winners deserve Piedmont’s thanks for all they do to care for our patients every day,” Piedmont President and CEO Kevin Brown said. “Lori is a shining example of what it means to live our values and to uphold our promise. Her actions do us all proud.”
Lori’s story illustrates how she went above and beyond. While working as a nurse in Piedmont Newnan’s ICU, Lori cared for a patient in his 20s who had autism and no family support. He was very sick, in need of a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) and a heart transplant, but was removed from the transplant list because he had no support system.
Upon hearing this, Lori offered the man a place in her home and to be his caregiver so he could receive the care he needed. She knew the patient needed to remain a transplant candidate to survive so she went through the legal process of adopting him. The patient has been living with her since December and in August received a heart transplant.
Thanks to Lori’s kindness and generosity, the patient is making a full recovery. Lori truly made a positive difference in this man’s life and continues to every day.
Lori lives the Piedmont Promise. She championed patient-centered care by focusing on the man’s needs and desires, beyond the hospital walls. She was an owner, taking on a selfless responsibility and proudly representing the best of Piedmont. Lastly, she made a positive difference for this patient by giving him the gift of life.
“Lori gave Jonathan a new life, a new heart and a new family and because of her what she’s done we all want to be a better person and caregiver,” said Piedmont Newnan CEO Mike Robertson. “She is such a positive example of what living the Piedmont Promise is all about and I am proud of her and all of our employees who go above and beyond for our patients.”
