Mayor Brady celebrates Summer Reading Challenge at the Carnegie

From Special Reports

The Newnan Carnegie Library Foundation held a Summer Reading Celebration at the Carnegie Library on July 29 for participants of the 2023 Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge.

Every year City of Newnan Mayor Keith Brady invites area elementary school students to participate in a summer reading challenge. For every sixty minutes students read, they were eligible to receive a treat from generous Newnan businesses.

“This was a fantastic celebration of this wonderful program,” says Carnegie Director, Susan Crutchfield. “We had over 90 children participate in the Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge this year. We feel very fortunate to have had an amazing summer with our reading programs and all of our summer programs. This would not have been possible without the support of the Newnan Carnegie Library Foundation and a grant from the Kiwanis Club.”

The Summer Reading Celebration included students sharing their favorite books, authors, genres and why they read. There were also several activities to do include coloring a special bookmark, making words with scrabble letters and playing with Legos. Mayor Brady gave a delightful reading of the book, There’s a Dragon in Your Book. The celebration concluded with ice cream sundaes with all the toppings!

The Newnan Carnegie Library Foundation would like to thank the generous local sponsors who donated treats to the students: Let Them Eat Toffee, Wishbone, Mad Mexican, Fabiano’s, Redneck Gourmet, Whit’s Frozen Custard, Cakes by Debbie and Rock Salt Milk Bar.
