THE SKINNY – Coweta County has averaged just over 4 new COVID cases per day since last Thursday’s storms.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Monday, March 29. Due to technical issues since Thursday’s storms that hit Coweta, this is our first update since. Below is a summary with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County has confirmed 17 new COVID-19 cases, 1 death and 1 hospitalizations since Thursday’s (March 25) storms. It’s an average of 4.25 cases per day with Saturday (March 27) posting single-day highs during that span across the board – 7 cases, 1 death and 1 hospitalization.

Casewise,  Coweta recorded 4 on Friday, 7 on Saturday, 1 on Sunday and 5 on Monday. The last time the county had only 1 case was on June 25. Coweta now has been below 20 cases in a day a total of 25 times in March.

In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 39 COVID cases (5.6 per day), 10 deaths and 3 hospitalizations.

For March, Coweta has posted 360 cases (12.4 per day) with 30 deaths (1.03 per day) and 27 hospitalizations (0.93 per day). For comparison, here are February’s numbers and per day averages – 886 cases (31.6 per day), 41 deaths (1.5 per day), and 39 hospitalizations (1.4 per day).

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.2 percent, and in the last two weeks has dropped to 3.1 percent.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8385 cases, 180 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 308 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 19th in deaths due to COVID.

The age groups of 15-24 and 35-44 year olds had the most new COVID cases in the March 26-29 reporting window with 5 each.

GEORGIA CASES

Since Thursday, Georgia has confirmed 3668 new COVID-19 cases or 917 per day. The state has extended its streak to 30 days below 2000 cases, which is the longest stretch since Sept. 23-Oct. 22.

Other numbers in Georgia from March 26-29 included 187 deaths (46.75 per day), 229 hospitalizations (57.25 per day) and 42 ICU admits (10.5 per day).

All four patient census categories decreased in the March 26-29 span.  ICU Bed Occupancy dropped to 2271 (down 175 from Thursday) or 75.1 percent capacity. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state fell to 11,621 (down 592) or at 76.8 percent capacity. COVID Patients Hospitalized in Georgia dropped, now standing at 1213 (down 28) which is 8.2 percent of all statewide hospital patients. And Adult Ventilators in use also decreased, now at 1005 (down 46) or 27.4 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.7 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 5.2 percent.

Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 850,413 cases, 16,523 deaths, 58,533 hospitalizations and 9579 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).

ONE YEAR AGO

On March 29, 2020, Georgia confirmed 237 new COVID-19 cases with 4 deaths, pushing the cumulative totals to 2683 cases and 83 deaths.

Coweta confirmed 2 new COVID-19 cases and 0 deaths on this date a year ago. Coweta’s cumulative totals were 23 cases, 2 deaths.

Other cumulative totals in Coweta and surrounding counties thru March 29 had Fulton with 425, Carroll at 70, Fayette 27, Coweta 23, Spalding 12, Troup 10, Meriwether 5 and Heard 1.
