Mr. Personality: February Book of the Month and other ramblings

By MR. PERSONALITY, Special to The Paper

February, the month for Valentine’s Day and President’s Day. For those looking to celebrate Valentine’s Day, you can find all your chocolate and flowers you need right on Newnan’s Courthouse Square.

Let Them Eat Toffee, which has expanded it quaint little shop, can indeed provide an assortment of yummy chocolate gifts. They are located at 18 North Court Square. Phone number is 770-683-0137

Just down the street is Murphey Florist, with a large selection of fresh flowers for any and all year flower needs. Murphey Florist is located on 6 LaGrange St. Their number is 770-253-5424.

And yes, both Murphey Florist and Let Them Eat Toffee are Mr. Personality approved.

The Courthouse Square has a lot going on. I shall be glad to see the return of Market Day and the Farmer’s Market as they are both a delight to shop at.

I am excited to see what the year 2022 shall be like and I truly intend to embrace this new year with the very best of myself simply by staying in a positive state of mind, living in the moment and spreading joy and goodwill everywhere I go. I shall do what I can with what I have wherever I happen to be.

You may have noticed that my Book of the Month has been expanding to more of my column and the reason for that is my desire to promote reading as reading can indeed inspire our hearts and minds in many ways. Reading can expand upon our ability to think more deeply and is indeed a great way to challenge oneself.

As I have stated many times, those that do not read are no better off than those who cannot read.

This month’s book is titled “Atheists,” a groundbreaking study of America’s nonbelievers by Bruce E. Hunsberger and Bob Altemeyer.

Both authors are professors of psychology and this book is an intensive survey about atheists and how they became atheists. I chose this book to fulfill my own curiosity about what makes an atheist an atheist. There seems to be as many reasons as there are atheists. I was not aware that there is such a thing as atheist clubs in America.

In fact, there is such a club located in Peachtree City. In other surveys, atheist is often listed as simply non-believer and according to this book that can be very misleading as stated on Page 18.

This book has all the charts and exhibits that one would expect to find in a survey. You can even test yourself by answering the survey on page 145. Page 131 has responses from a number of atheists organizations that were surveyed.

I am trying to overcome the habit of making any assumptions of any group of people or any such organizations without indepth research seeking facts and understanding over opinions.

Until next time,

Peace, love and much respect
