National Coalition of 100 Black Women – MECCA Chapter – empowers women, girls

The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Incorporated—MECCA Chapter is an advocacy organization dedicated to empowering women and girls in the areas of education, health, economic empowerment, and public advocacy in the South Metro Area.

The organization has just completed another successful program year impacting the lives of women and girls.

Their Little Ladies of MECCA mentoring program is an award winning program receiving grants from Wells Fargo and BMW of South Atlanta for support. This year NCBW-MECCA awarded $5000 scholarships to Jada Durrah, Malia Stripling, and Jacar Whitaker. NCBW-MECCA has provided over $225k in scholarships since 2010 and had 2 Gates Millennium Scholars.

The organization also advocates in the areas of Health and Economic Empowerment. On Thursday, May 16, 2024, the MECCA Chapter hosted a workshop entitled State of Emergency: The Impact of Gun Violence on Our Youth – An Exploration of Strategies to Promote Optimal Mental Health. This workshop featured panelists that consisted of GA State Representative, Roger Bruce, Fulton County’s Chief Magistrate Judge, Cassandra Kirk and Dr. Angela Washington. In March NCBW-MECCA hosted a workshop on Financial Literacy entitled “Lets Talk About Money.” The workshop broached spending, saving, sharing money and credit for teens.

At their 2024 Scholarship Fundraiser “Carnivale With A Cause” they honored leaders in the community such as Dr. Donya L. Sartor Mayor of Jonesboro for her Excellence in Civic Engagement.
