November: Coweta posts lowest monthly pandemic numbers since July

THE SKINNY – Coweta County ended November with its lowest number of monthly cases and hospitalizations since July.

Below is a summary of COVID-19 data thru Tuesday, Nov. 30 from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County saw significant decreases across the board in all COVID-19 categories in November. 

Coweta ended the month with 310 cases (10.3 per day), 13 deaths and 66 hospitalizations. Those numbers marked a decrease in cases (down 118), deaths (down 40) and hospitalizations (down 28) from October’s totals. In addition, it was the lowest number of cases since July’s 212, the lowest number of deaths since 13 in August and hospitalizations since 10 in July.

Two weekly numbers stood out during November, one great and the other not so much. First, zero deaths were recorded for the week of Nov. 20-26 which was the first time since the week of May 17-23 that no COVID-related deaths were confirmed in Coweta. And second, 94 cases were reported for the Nov. 20-26 week which was the most since 97 (Oct. 9-15). 

Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, Coweta County has administered 142,306 vaccinations resulting in a rate of 49 percent for people with one dose and 45 percent for fully vaccinated as of Nov. 30. Full vaccination rates for neighboring counties includes Fayette at 61 percent and Fulton at 55 percent.  Others include Spalding (41%), Meriwether (41%), Carroll (37%), Troup (36%) and Heard (29%).

The positive test rate on November 30 of all persons tested in Coweta was 11.1 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 4.9 percent. Coweta started the month with those exact test rests on Nov. 1.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 13,039 cases, 347 deaths (with an additional 40 probable deaths) and 874 hospitalizations thru Nov. 30 from when the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 25th in COVID-related hospitalizations.

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia confirmed 19,726 COVID-19 cases in November for an average of 657.5 per day. 

Georgia also had 837 COVID-related deaths (27.9 per day), 3,030 hospitalizations (101 per day) and 467 ICU admits (15.6 per day).

Regarding vaccinations, the Georgia Department of Public Health reports that 12,246,141 vaccinations have been applied in Georgia through Nov. 30. Of those, 58 percent have one dose of the vaccine while 51 percent have been fully vaccinated.

In patient census categories, here are their respective numbers thru Nov. 30.  The number of COVID Patients Hospitalized is now at 932 or 5.6 percent of all people hospitalized in Georgia. Adult Ventilators in Use is 1,126 or 28.1 percent capacity. ICU Beds in Use now stands at 2,399 or 83.1 percent capacity statewide and In-Patient Hospital Beds in Use now total 13,023 or 84.0 percent capacity.

Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 1,285,265 cases, 25,713 deaths, 89,447 hospitalizations and 13,982 ICU admits thru Nov. 30 from when the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8, 2021); deaths (188 on Oct. 15, 2021); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6, 2021); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12, 2020).
