THE SKINNY – Coweta County posted its highest number of COVID-related hospitalizations in a month since the pandemic began with 95 during August.

Below is a summary of COVID-19 data thru Tuesday, Aug. 31 from  the Georgia Department of Public Health.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 58 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, pushing the total for August 2021 to 1,626 cases or 52.4 per day. Both of those monthly totals only trail January 2021 for record-highs. Other Tuesday numbers included 1 death and 8 hospitalizations.

Those 8 hospitalizations increased Coweta’s record-numbers for hospitalizations in a month to 95 and per day average to 3.0. The previous high totals were 39 (February and April, 2021) and 1.4 (February 2021), respectively.

Statewide, Georgia posted record-high numbers yesterday for ICU Beds in Use at 2,846 or 93.7 percent capacity as well as Adult Ventilators in Use at 1,890 or 49.2 percent capacity. The number of COVID Patients Hospitalized is 5,658 or 32.8 percent, just 63 shy of Georgia’s record.

Regarding vaccinations, the Georgia Department of Public Health reports that 12,070 vaccinations have been applied here in Coweta County through August 31. Of those, 61,823 people or 43 percent have 1 dose of the vaccine while 53,990 or 38 percent of Coweta residents have been fully vaccinated. By comparison, neighbor Fayette County has a vaccination rate of 61 percent with 1 dose and 55 percent fully vaccinated. The state’s vaccination rate is 51 percent with 1 dose and 43 percent fully vaccinated.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.7 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 20.9 percent. Last week, those test rates were at 10.6 and 21.5, respectively.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 10,735 cases, 235 deaths (with an additional 14 probable deaths) and 512 hospitalizations thru August 20 from when the pandemic began. Coweta remains ranked 23rd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 18th in deaths due to COVID and 32nd in COVID-related hospitalizations.
