Piedmont Newnan Canceling All Elective Surgeries

Piedmont Newnan Hospital, facing an onslaught of new COVID-related cases due to the Delta variant, is canceling all elective surgeries until further notice.
“At Piedmont, our mission is to make a positive difference in every life we touch, said Nicole Dillon, hospital spokesperson, in a prepared statement. “Today (Monday), that means pausing elective surgeries at Piedmont Newnan so that we can better serve patients in our community and conserve necessary resources to care for them, while also protecting our team.”
The Delta variant is leading to infection numbers not seen since January and February, when cases, hospitalizations and deaths were at their highest.
In Coweta County, only 35 percent of eligible residents are vaccinated.
“This is in direct response to the Delta variant’s impact as it begins to rival past surges, locally and nationally, Dillon added. “We encourage those who have not been vaccinated to do so quickly, and for everyone to continue practicing the 3 Ws: wear a mask, watch your distance and wash your hands.”
