Saturday: Coweta again above 100 new cases of COVID-19

THE SKINNY – Coweta County reported its 3rd-highest single day of new COVID-19 cases with 114 on Saturday.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Saturday, Jan. 23.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 114 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, including 2 deaths and 0 hospitalizations. It’s the 3rd time Coweta has been over 100 cases in a day – Dec. 31 (160) and Jan. 9 (121). The 114 cases also extends the number of consecutive days to 71 with double-digit cases, dating from Nov. 14. And it’s 26 straight days with more than 20.

The 2 deaths brings the January total to a monthly-high of 24 and ties last week’s mark for most deaths in a week with 10. Today’s deaths means Coweta has had 20 in the past 12 days. And the county has recorded a death due to COVID for 6 days in-a-row, the longest streak since the pandemic started.

In January, the county has posted 1461 cases for an average of 63.5 per day. There have been 24 deaths and 23 hospitalizations. The 1461 cases have surpassed the total for every month except December (1620).

The age group of 55-64 year-olds had the highest number of COVID cases on Saturday with 27, followed by the age group of 45-54 with 24.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 6734 cases, 102 deaths (with an additional 7 probable deaths) and 238 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 25th among all Georgia counties for most cumulative cases and 29th in deaths.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks, is at 15.0 percent.

GEORGIA CASES

On Saturday, Georgia confirmed 6572 new cases of COVID-19 including 128 deaths, 320 hospitalizations and 47 ICU admits. The 128 deaths is the 9th-highest total for a single day and the 16th time above 100.

Georgia has now been above 4000 cases for 26 consecutive days, dating from Dec. 29.

Presently, 5,021 people in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 29.9 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Saturday is at 12,931 or at 84.1 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy hit a record-high today at 2820 or 92.7 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use is at 1661 or 45.0 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 714,322 cases, 11,798 deaths, 48,270 hospitalizations and 8183 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.1 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 15.7 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (170 on Jan. 19); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
