The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Wednesday, Dec. 2.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

On Wednesday, Coweta County confirmed 36 new cases of COVID-19 with 1 death and 4 hospitalizations. The death was of an 89-year-old white female with no underlying conditions.

It is the 19th consecutive day Coweta has reached double-digits in cases and the county now has had 17 hospitalizations in the past 10 days.

The age group of 35-44 had 8 new cases today, the highest among all Coweta groups. Both 45-54 and 65-74 year old groups had 7.

Other surrounding counties and their respective case increases from Tuesday’s totals include: Fulton added 317 cases (1 death), Troup 29, Carroll 21 (1 death), Fayette 21, Spalding 16 (1 death), Heard 14 and Meriwether 7.

To date, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 3711 cases, 69 deaths and 182 hospitalizations. The overall positive test rate is 8.0 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s rising at 10.7 percent.

Single-day highs now for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (67 on Nov. 17); deaths (4 on Aug. 13); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12).

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia’s single-day numbers for cases soared on Wednesday to 4,051, up 1255 from Tuesday. It’s the 9th time the state has been above 4000 in a single day, the last time was 4423 on Aug. 8. Other numbers on Wednesday included 32 deaths (up 12 from yesterday), 263 hospitalizations (up 24) and 33 ICU admits (down 6).

Presently, there are 2,273 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, which is 14.1 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is 12,803 or at 84.8 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2503 or 85.2 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 428,980 cases, 8830 deaths, 35,326 hospitalizations and 6569 ICU admits. The age group in Georgia with the most cases by far is 18-29 year olds with 105,033, followed by 30-39 year olds with 69,858.

The overall positive test rate is 9.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s 9.1 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (4,813 on July 24); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
