One of our newest graduates and a shining star, Shanna Campbell, graduated from the Coweta Master Gardener program in April 2018.

Shanna began gardening five years ago when she was expecting her son. She was determined to grow her own healthy food, so after much reading and watching a lot of British gardening shows, she planted her family’s first vegetable garden in raised beds.

Though living in Reno, Nev., at the time, she took inspiration from the British shows with their shorter growing season and small plots of land.   When she returned to Coweta County, Shanna began familiarizing herself with the Coweta Master Gardener program by attending monthly Backyard Association presentations and plant sales and quickly knew she wanted to become a Master Gardener volunteer.

Campbell has hit the ground running and quickly satisfied her minimum volunteer hours within just a few months.  She has volunteered in the greenhouse and for the spring and fall plant sales and keeps going!  She loves watching a seed become food for the table or a gift to share.  She now wants to learn more about ornamentals and their propagation through hardwood and softwood cuttings.

Shanna is a realtor and still finds time to learn about gardening and assume leadership rolls. She enjoys technology and utilizes it not only in her career but as a gardener.   If she doesn’t know something she researches it until she has gained the knowledge to build another skill. She’s a proponent of utilizing free information.

Originally, Campbell is from Pennsylvania and attended Penn State University where she focused on polymer science in the Material Science department. She has even been an over the road semi-truck driver. She then transitioned to the brokerage side of logistics and worked in this field for more than ten years.

After living in Charlotte, Baltimore, Atlanta and Reno, she moved back to Newnan to be close to family.  She has a fun, little five year old son that keeps her very busy and a wonderful husband of seven years that rolls with all of her activities.
